A coin-counting game where you click pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters to match a target amount before time runs out, then feed the piggy bank. Choose Penny Prospect (easy, all four coins) or Coin Captain (harder, limited coin sets and larger totals). Controls: mouse or tap to click coins and buttons, enter or space to continue.

Teaching Notes for Educators

Piggy Bank Math covers coin recognition and coin-value combination - building a target amount out of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters, then reading the result in both cent and dollar notation. Every round is scored by speed and every over-shoot is tracked, so students get immediate, repeated practice making change with real coin values instead of abstract place-value blocks.

Two tiers that scale the actual math, not just the difficulty label. Penny Prospect uses all four coins with targets under a dollar; Coin Captain restricts students to just two coin denominations at a time (e.g. "only dimes and nickels") with larger totals, forcing a genuine skip-counting strategy instead of a mixed grab-bag approach.
Coin labels fade out as difficulty rises. Easy mode shows each coin's cent value printed right on its face; Coin Captain hides it, so students have to already know a dime is worth 10¢ rather than reading it off the coin.
A live, color-coded piggy bank. The bank's color shifts from red toward green as the running total approaches the target, giving a constant visual sense of "getting closer" alongside the numeric total - useful for students who benefit from a non-numeric progress cue.
Built-in guardrails against guessing. Going over the target twice in a single round ends the game, and Undo/Clear buttons let a student correct a misclick without being penalized for a slip versus a real misunderstanding.
Dollars-and-cents notation practice built in. Totals under a dollar display with a ¢ symbol and totals at or above a dollar switch to $X.XX notation automatically, giving natural repeated exposure to both formats named directly in the standard.
A timed 4-question block with a saved best time. Short, complete-able rounds with a personal best (separate for each difficulty) turn practice into a beatable challenge without ever requiring an account or storing anything beyond the browser session.
Low-stakes and replayable. No accounts, unlimited replays, and every target amount is guaranteed solvable in at least 3 coins, so a round never boils down to a single trivial coin.
